ELDERLY HEALTH SUPPORT ASSISTANT

  • Elderly Health Support Assistant is a care giver who takes care of the sick and elderly people in tome or old age homes or residential care facility or rchabilitation centers or geriatric clinics 'They  work in collaboration or consultation with  doctors and nurses, and other healthcare providers to deliver the services to the elderly people, Elderly Health Support Assistant should exhibit their ability to understand geriatric illnesses, assist in activitics daily living, meet the special needs of the elderly, explicit good of tommunication_and Interpersonal Relationship, perform_ emergency procedures, and help the clderly to maintain their quality of life and independence at home. 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF  STUDENT :

  • The candidate should be a citizen of India.

  • SSLC completed (10'th Std) Pass or Fail

  • The Students should be native of Nagapattinam district.

  • Deans have the power to select student for their medical college.

  •  3 Months Course

  • Number of alloted seat : 25 Students 

AGE LIMIT :

  •  Minimum Agc - 17 Yrs (should have completed 17 years)

  •  Maximum Age - 32 Yrs (should not have completed 32 yrs)

  •  For SC/SCA/ST - maximum age enhanced to 37 Yrs Evidence document should be produced.

  • 10TH Marksheet

  • Birth Certificate

  • Aadhar Card

No Course fees / No Stipend / No Hostel

SCOPE OF PRACTICE  :

     At the end of the course the candidate will have a certification of the skills attained and would be ligible to perform following activities:

  • Discuss & verbalize the role of doctor, nurses and other healthcare providers

  • Assist elderly in bathing, skin care, foot care and grooming

  • Assist elderly in oral feeding and NG feeding

  •  Assist geriatrics in elimination needs and provide catheter care and enema to the needy

  • Perform basic physical examination of elderly to identify the problcms

  • Assess vital signs of the elderly people

  • Assist the elderly in administration of oral medications

  • Administer insulin injections subcutaneously

  • Assist the elderly in mobilization using assistive or mobility devices

  • Transfer the elderly from bed to wheel chair, wheel chair to bed, chair to bed. bed to chair, stretcher to ambulance, stretcher to bed

  • Practice infection control protocols

  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid in the event of emergencies

  • Identify the behavioral problems of the elderly

  • Assist the elderly to cope with changes in ageing to improve their health and well-being.

  •  Perform measures to prevent pressure ulcers and also apply wound dressing to various stages of pressure ulcers

  • Provide palliative care to dyeing elderly and death care

  • Maintain good communication and interpersonal relationship with elderly people, family members and healthcare providers

  •  Document the activities performed for the elderly in designated records
